BURFORD ~ October 2025
A four day break in Burford to meet up with Lesley & Rob, as we've not seen them since July last year. We arrived Sunday afternoon and took a stroll into Burford for a look around, and sometthing to eat. Then back for the start of a series of games of Hearts.
Monday, we did a circular walk through the villages nearby and along the Windrush river. It was a pleasant day and surprisingly got hotter the further we walked. We must have stopped about half way and managed to find a pub, which we wouldn't have found had we not missed our path and gone wrong briefly. However, it was just what we needed. A drink and something to eat. It was extrenely busy considering it was a Monday and really in the middle of nowhere! However, after our break we were able to pick up the trail and carry on back to Burford. A really enjoyable walk. Of course when we got back to Burford, the cards came out.
Tuesday we caught a bus to Oxford. We've all been before, not together, but none of us could remember too much about the place. Still, we had a walk around looking at some of the colleges and then picking up a walk along the river which bought us back into the heart of the City. Naturally, we stopped for lunch and also managed coffee and cake in the afternoon before catching the bus back. Then of course, the serious business of cards followed.
Wednesday, our last day, we decided to do another walk, this time to Witney. It was a glorious day as we strolled through villages. We stopped off at The Farmers Dog, pub and farmshop, owned by Jeremy Clarkson, just really to have a look. Admittedly the pub looked very nice, but we only went in the farmshop, which I've got to say was rather underwhelming, nothing special at all. By now, we realised we still had quite a walk to do and it was on a road. So we decided to head back and grab something to eat in Burford. Which we did. Rob found a hotel serving tapas. How appropriate. We had a most enjoyable late lunch and then headed back, yet again to finish off with cards. I'm not going to say too much about the overall winner or the lucky cards used on this occasion, as I'm not known for bragging 😁
