Martalsham, Suffolk ~ 14th - 21st July 2025

So, here we are, on the outskirts of Martalsham, near Woodbridge in Suffolk, staying at The Moon and Sixpence.  We've come here for a week just before the schools break up. This is the view from our pitch. A very relaxed and quiet location. This site was recommended to us 12 years ago by a friend and we've only just got around to coming here.

So once we'd settled in, we headed for the bar on site, getting the local info. The site has amazing facilities such as a lake, tennis courts, badminton, volley ball, golf and bowls. All these facilities, except bowls we are able to use, although I can't quite see us doing any of them, it's too hot for starters.

So after a quick drink we settled in, a very quiet place apart from the wildlife we could hear in the distance.

Tuesday we did a circular walk, heading out of the site and through a wooded area and
followed the route through open fields, eventually following a stream into the village. Here we stopped for some lunch at the Red Lion pub. Having cooled down and feeling refreshed, we picked up the trail from the village to take us back to the campsite. We still can't get over how quiet it is and also, not many people here.

Wednesday we headed off following a trail along the estuary to Woodbridge.

A lovely walk, although near the end we had to cross the beach, thankfully the tide was out, but clearly we needed to be aware of this for our return journey. Arriving at Woodbridge we had a wander around the town, stopping for some lunch and then took a stroll a bit further along the estuary. Conscious of the tide coming in, we made our way back.

Thursday we decided to pick up the path along the estuary, but this time staying on this side and taking the path into Waldringfield. This again was a lovely walk, although we had to come off the estuary as the path was closed due to erosion. We were able though to continue in a loop back to site. We then headed off along another track, which took us to Waldringfield. Thankfully a lovely pub on the estuary was open. Lovely crab and prawn salad. Steve was hoping to get crab whilst here.

Friday we walked into Waldringfield and followed the estuary towards Felixstowe. This path took us through open fields and then back down by the estuary, although sadly again, we had to come off the path due to erosion. We made our way back to Waldringfield, where, hmmmm crab & prawn salad awaited us. We sat and watched House Martins buzzing around. Oh did I not mention the field of pigs we pass on the walk into Waldringfield. Sorry have to mention this as a certain person is very fond of pigs, although the state these were in, is enough to put you off pork for life 😂

Saturday, the bad weather is kicking in now. We headed out for a walk walking through another wooded area to the local supermaket to pick up some supplies. In the evening, we headed over to the bar for a bit of entertainment. A quiz, card bingo and open the box. Sunday was just a total washout, although we did have a lovely evening. Again we went to the bar for more entertainment. Got to say, don't usually do this but when the weather is dire, needs must and all that. To be honest, we really did have a fun time, although sadly we didn't win anything.
