Vall de Laguar - March 10

Arrived in Vall de Laguar and are here for 10 days. This is a great place for walking. Hopefully the weather will pick up a bit, although we have been lucky compared to some.

Tuesday we just relaxed and enjoyed the sun. But we made up for a relaxing day by doing a big walk on Wednesday. This was a 9 mile walk from where we are staying. It literally is going down a canyon to the barranca at the bottom, then back up again. Past a lovely cascading waterfall, but when we got to the pool at the bottom, we came across a lady, starkers, bathing in the cold water! That's why we have no photo! We actually went down, up, down, up, down and finally up again. But it was a lovely walk.

See what I mean, it's a long way down to the bottom and to go down and up three times, is very tiring on the old legs

Thursday was looking like a rainy day, so we took a walk out of the village down to the dam, but unfortunately we couldn't get to the dam as the tunnel we have to go through was flooded, so we picked up another trail, that led us up into the woods and skirted around the village, cutting down a track that bought us into the heart of the village and right by the bar. Honestly, we didn't plan it and we didn't know that's where the path led. So we stopped for some patas bravas and a beer or two!

Friday we took it easy because it was a bit of a wet day and also, we needed to rest to little legs of ours. We are gearing ourselves up to do the ridge walk, which is a big one and quite a hike to get to the top, from what I remember.

So here we are, up on the ridge. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be to get up. It's still quite a hike, but we had a glorious day, just perfect and once on the ridge, it gave us fabulous views all around. We think that we could even see out beyond Denia to Ibiza, it was that clear. It's a bit of an obstacle course once you are on the top, it's mainly flat but there are parts where you have to climb up or down steep rocks and this is when they provide chains to assist you!

The walk towards the end goes through a wooded area which is quite pleasant and then it's the descent, which isn't too bad. This photo here gives you an idea of the ridge. You've got the village that we set off from at the bottom and we climb up onto the ridge at the lowest point and then we go right, not left and walk along the top.  So 9 miles in total and it took us 5 hours. We were exhausted afterwards. An easy day tomorrow.

Sunday morning, we headed down to the bar for breakfast. Afterwards we took a stroll around the village and up out towards the next village, just to stretch our legs. Later in the afternoon, we walked up to Fleix, which is the next village for a late afternoon drink and something to eat.

We then strolled back, getting back just in time before the rain started. Weather isn't looking too good for the next couple of days, looks like we've got more rain coming.

The jasmin is beautiful this time of year and the smell is something else.

OK, so we've had two whole days of rain and last night, it was really heavy well into the early hours of the morning. After two days of scrabble and Yahtzee, we needed to get out and stretch those legs of ours.
We stayed on the tarmac and walked beyond the next village of Fleix, to the village of Benimaurell. We stopped here for some lunch before heading back. It's still a bit overcast here and the cloud still low. In fact yesterday at one point, the cloud was so low, you could hardly see in front of you. But not so bad today, we did get some sun and warmer weather.

This evening, we decided to walk to the bar in the village for something to eat as we are heading off tomorrow to Jàvea.
