Valle de Leugar ~ 3rd - 11th April

Another new site. This is inland, about 15 miles from Jávea and up in the mountains. We can see Montgo easily here. It is beautiful up here, so
peaceful and quiet. Slightly cooler too. This place was recommended to us by a Scottish couple we met at the start of our trip back in Navajas. It's great for cycling and walking. Well, you can forget the cycling, we are talking very steep ascents here, ok for the likes of our mate Rob, but for me and Steve, no way! We arrived on the Wednesday and went to the village for a beer or two.
Thursday was the village market that we went to, to get a few supplies.

We then did a little walk, just to get use to the immediate vicinity and get a feel for the place. The next village, Fleix, is only a couple of miles away, uphill, of course, but this was a nice stroll. We then found the start to a coulple of walks, which we intend to do. We then continued on our walk back to site and came across a restaurant that has been recommended. So we stopped for a couple of drinks here and took in the views. We also booked a table for Saturday night.

Friday we did a big walk. We went down the mountain into the gorge. You can just make the path out on this photo. When we got to the bottom, we climbed all the way back up again. We stopped near the top in a wooded area for some lunch in the shade. The walk was a continuous up and down the mountain and down to the gorge below. It wasn't too hot a day, but when we were down in the gorge it was extremely hot. However,  it was a stunning walk, beautiful scenery but very exhausting. We did manage to walk 11 miles.

Saturday we did an easy stroll. We picked up a route from the village and headed down to find the dam. We then retraced our steps and got back to the village just as the fiesta started. It was a big street party, with music and the biggest paella. We didn't stay for the fiesta as we were going out for dinner at the restaurant up the road. We had a fabulous meal. As it was a fiesta, they had baked a special bread/cake, which was part of the menu. They also gave us one to take home ! Of course this went down well with a certain person.

Sunday we did another short walk. We went down and out of the village and then through some woods. This was particularly nice as we were shaded for quite a bit of the walk and gave us great views over Cambell.

Again, whilst doing this walk, we picked up on another walk we want to do. This is a walk along the top of the mountain on a ridge. It's quite a long walk and we are not sure if we can do it all in one day or if we will have to split it up into 2 days

We started the ridge walk relatively early. It's a shame as it was a cloudy day, so the views from the top of the ridge were not as good as we were hoping. But oh my goodness, this was some walk. It was very challenging. Just to get to the top and the ridge was very hard work. Then it was quite hard along the ridge as well. Quite a lot of scrambling about. At one point, we had to use chains that had been provided for you to hold onto whilst you descended down a very steep and narrow path. Funnily enough we met the couple who are opposite us on the campsite, coming in the other direction. At this point, we were quite exhausted and had stopped for some

lunch. After that, it became quite a bit easier, although we were still very high but it wasn't quite as challenging. We decided that we would make this a 2 day walk as we were quite exhausted and we still had to get back down and then walk back to site. However, we managed this. 9 miles in the end. Very exhausting.

Tuesday we did the other part of the walk. This was easier, although a longer. We headed back to where we came down from the ridge and went back up to the point where we left off yesterday. It was a much better day, with the sun shining and a beautiful blue sky. 12 miles in total today. But a great walk and a sense of achievement.

Wednesday we had an easy day and then went into the village for some tapas. We are moving on to Haro on Thursday, our last stop before catching the ferry home.
