Upper Hurst, Hartington, The Peak District - 9th ~ 16th July 2023

We arrived Sunday and were able to get set up before meeting the ICA folk at 4pm for tea and cake.

Monday we did a circular walk to Hartington via Wolfscotedale and Biggen Dale. This was a lovely walk and thankfully we were able to keep the rain at bay. We stopped off at Hartington, where we had some light refreshment and at that point it chucked it down with rain. Thankfully, by the time we were leaving it had all but stopped so we were able to get back before the next downpour. 8.5 miles today.

Tuesday we did a cycle ride into Hartington and after that not really sure where other than it was beautifull but lots of gruelling hills. We eventually ended up on the high peak trail where we stopped for coffee and a light bite and then onto the Tissinton trail and back into Hartington and then home. That evening, we had a group dinner at the Mannifold Inn, which was most enjoyable.

The High Peak Trail

Wednesday was a long walk and whilst the weather was somewhat overcast at times and windy, we generally managed to avoid the rain whilst walking. Our walk took us up Ecton Hill where copper used to be mined and then down and along to Wetton Mill, where we stopped for some well deserved lunch. We then picked up the Manifold Valley trail and followed this all the way back to Hulme End and back to camp. A most enjoyable walk, all 9.5 miles.

Thursday was a cycle ride to Ilam, a very pretty village with a beautiful manor house, Ilam Hall, where we stopped for a mid morning snack. We then headed off to the Dovedale stepping stones, then onto the Tissington trail, where Steve and I continued on to Parsley Hay, whilst the others stayed to look around Tissington. We then headed back down to Hartington and back to camp where we were all meeting up again late afternoon for a BBQ. It had been a glorious sunny day, however, tomorrow is looking very glum, rain all day
Friday was a wet day, all day. Saturday, however, was a bit better with sunny spells amongst the rain, thunder and lightning. We're off tomorrow to the Yorkshire Dales
