Chatsworth Estate ~ 2nd - 9th July

We arrived Sunday and our friends, Rob & Lesley arrived within minutes of us. Couldn't plan it if we tried. So once we'd set up, we met up with them for a catch up, cards, drink and pizza. Hmm this is the course for the 4 days we are together.

Monday, we walked to Bakewell, starting off through the Chatsworth estate and continuing through Edensor, up to the highest peak and then down into Bakewell. We stopped for coffee and then we had a stroll around Bakewell. It was market day and they still have a cattle market here, although we didn't go to see it. We then stopped for some lunch during yet another shower, but then thankfully by the time we were ready to walk back the weather had settled. It was a lovely walk and we were lucky to be able to miss most of the rain. The evening comprised of cards again.

Tuesday was a warm day and we did a circular walk taking in the farm shop, having stopped for coffee at Chatsworth House. As it was nice we decided to have a BBQ. Of course, by the time we got set up, it started raining, however, we continued and the rain did stop.

Wednesday was Rob & Lesley's last day with us. Again, it was another nice day and so we headed off along the river and through a few villages until we came to Carver. Here we picked up the river and walked back along that. Once we got to our village, we stopped off for some lunch and then headed back to camp for cards.

Thursday Steve and I headed off towards a village called Rowsley following the river all the way. This was a pleasant walk and the weather was good too. Once we reached the village, we stopped for lunch at what we thought was a pub, but turned out to be a hotel. Still, we had a very nice lunch, not quite what we were expecting, but all the same, very nice.

Friday was a very hot day. We did a circular walk around the chatsworth estate going up to the top of the valley and looking down over the estate. We then dropped down into the estate and stopped for a light lunch before heading home.

We've had a lovely week here at Chatsworth, especially the time spent with Rob & Lesely. Still, we are moving on now and joining our friends from the ICA, literally just up the road in Hartington.
