Grassington, Yorkshire Dales ~ 16th - 23rd July 2023

Image
We arrived Sunday after a lovely drive through the Peaks and into the Yorkshire Dales. We are here for a week and once we'd got ourselves settled, we met up with the ICA group, some people having gone home and some just arriving. So a slight change to the group. However, as is the way with the ICA, tea and cake to start the week. Later though we met again for a little tipple to celebrate Jo & Sandy's 57th wedding anniversary. Monday, Steve & I, with Bob, Neil & Judith, headed off to Bolton Abbey where we started our walk along the Wharfe river. It's quite an undulating walk to begin with through woods but flattens out as you follow the river. In parts the river was raging, with a fast current bubbling over boulders. We were lucky to see a Kingfisher flying speedily along the surface. We also saw a few Herons and Sand Martins. We then stopped for a pub lunch and met up with Clive & Sue, who then walked the rest of the way back to Grassington with us. All in a...

Upper Hurst, Hartington, The Peak District - 9th ~ 16th July 2023

We arrived Sunday and were able to get set up before meeting the ICA folk at 4pm for tea and cake. Monday we did a circular walk to Hartington via Wolfscotedale and Biggen Dale. This was a lovely walk and thankfully we were able to keep the rain at bay. We stopped off at Hartington, where we had some light refreshment and at that point it chucked it down with rain. Thankfully, by the time we were leaving it had all but stopped so we were able to get back before the next downpour. 8.5 miles today. Tuesday we did a cycle ride into Hartington and after that not really sure where other than it was beautifull but lots of gruelling hills. We eventually ended up on the high peak trail where we stopped for coffee and a light bite and then onto the Tissinton trail and back into Hartington and then home. That evening, we had a group dinner at the Mannifold Inn, which was most enjoyable. The High Peak Trail Wednesday was a long walk and whilst the weather was somewhat overcast at times and windy,...

Chatsworth Estate ~ 2nd - 9th July

We arrived Sunday and our friends, Rob & Lesley arrived within minutes of us. Couldn't plan it if we tried. So once we'd set up, we met up with them for a catch up, cards, drink and pizza. Hmm this is the course for the 4 days we are together. Monday, we walked to Bakewell, starting off through the Chatsworth estate and continuing through Edensor, up to the highest peak and then down into Bakewell. We stopped for coffee and then we had a stroll around Bakewell. It was market day and they still have a cattle market here, although we didn't go to see it. We then stopped for some lunch during yet another shower, but then thankfully by the time we were ready to walk back the weather had settled. It was a lovely walk and we were lucky to be able to miss most of the rain. The evening comprised of cards again. Tuesday was a warm day and we did a circular walk taking in the farm shop, having stopped for coffee at Chatsworth House. As it was nice we decided to have a BBQ. Of co...
