Haro, La Rioja Region; 11th ~ 17th April

Tuesday, we arrived at Haro, our last stop before getting the ferry from Bilbao to Portsmouth. Hopefully we will be able to arrange a tour of the Muga winery, which we were not able to do last year. As tomorrow is going to be a wet day, all day, hopefully we can arrange this then.

Thursday, hurrah, we managed to get on the English tour, which unfortunately starts at 10am. Thankfully they left the wine tasting till the end so it wasn't too early in the day 😄. It was a good tour and very interesting, as they make all their own vats and barrells. This is a family run business and it is now the third generation running it. The tour consisted of two American woman and a couple from Israel. We had a good chat with them all after the tour whilst sampling the wines. After this, Steve and I went into the town to get some tapas. Sadly our favourite place, Bar Beethoven was closed for the day so we settled on somewhere else, followed by a coffee at the piano bar looking out over the square.
Friday we headed out for a walk after a couple of showers in the morning and walked along the river to the village of Brinas. This is a very pretty and quaint old village, but by the time we'd got there, not a lot was open, so we had a quick look around and started heading back the way we came. Sadly, it started to rain and so we had to take cover in the trees until it stopped. We always seem to get rain here, never mind, the next few days look reasonable😀.
Saturday turned out to be quite a nice day. We decided to take a stroll along the via verde, which follows the river in the other direction to Anguciana. Again there didn't seem to be too much open, so we headed back to Haro and hurrah, Bar Beethoven was open, so we stopped for tapas. We so love this bar, it's beautiful inside, full of character and wonderful tapas.
Sunday we did a circular walk around the outskirts of Haro through the vineyards. It was very pretty, with the vines now starting to get some foliage and with the mountains in the distance. Of course after this we went for some tapas.

Monday, our last day today, so we went to Bar Beethoven for lunch in the restaurant and then just enjoyed the rest of the afternoon in the sun.
Since arriving in Spain we have walked just over 347 miles😲
