Haro, Rioja region - April 2022

We arrived late afternoon in Haro, home to Rioja. We've not been here for 3 years, so we got straight to it, walking to the main square to stretch our legs after a long journey and get something to eat in the Piano Bar as it is fondly known as. When the sun is shining Haro can be a great place, but when it's not, it can seem a bit drab. Let's hope the sun will come out for us, for the remainder of our trip.

On Friday, the promise of some sun and warmer weather got us out and walking along the river Ebro to the quaint village Briรฑas, sitting on it's banks. We followed the path as far as we could go and then stopped in the village for a coffee. We had a wander around and then headed back to Haro. We were hoping to be able to visit one of the bodegas for a tour and tasting session, but the one we wanted to visit was all booked up until after we've gone. Nevermind, we'll book in advance next year. We've done one before and it's a great way to spend a dull day.

Once back in Haro we went to our favourite bar, Bar Beethoven. We spent a little while here having some tapas and a couple of glasses of wine before heading off to camp.

Saturday saw us trying to locate the start of a via verde we weren't aware of. We decided to walk and found the start of it. Great, we're going to cycle this tomorrow. However, today we walked along the river Tiron. A walk starting at the via verde also. This too is new to us, so 'Happy Days' as they say. After this we went to the main square in Haro and found a lovely little bar come restaurant tucked away from the square. Had some very different tapas here, more Turkish themed tapas. The sun is out and it's been a glorious day.

Sunday we did the via verde, starting from Haro and going about half way. We had to stop and come back as it was getting late. We didn't start until late in the day so it was our own fault. We did stop along the way for something to eat. It was a lovely ride, mostly along the river and through some small towns, that are just totally deserted. You just don't see a single person.

On Monday, we had lunch in the restaurant at Bar Beethoven, which was just lovely. A perfect end to a rather unusual Spanish trip. A number of firsts on this one. Home tomorrow on another new ferry too. Happy days...... ๐Ÿ˜Š
