Cullera

We arrived at a place called Cullera, on the coast, just south of Valencia. This is a new location for us and was all rather exciting for two reasons really, one somewhere new to explore and two, to get some sun!

It's quite a built up area with a number of high rise buildings on the seafront, however, the backdrop is mountains and then the plains where the rice fields are. There is a good long prom with a few bars that were open, but generally most places here are shut, although a few more did open at the weekend. Along the coast you can naturally see Valencia, but also down to Montgo. That beast of a mountain is always there!.  Whilst It is quiet here, it is mostly all Spanish people here.

So our first day we picked up a trail just outside the campsite and started climbing up to the top which gave us fabulous views out over the sea and inland to the mountains behind. We followed the trail which eventually led us to the castle and then down into the town of Cullera.

We then wandered around the town and down to the beach where we picked up the prom, stopping for some lunch and then headed back to camp. As it was late in the day and still nice and sunny we took the opportunity to sit outside for a while as the sun went down. A very nice start to our week here.

The next day, we strolled along the prom and picked up a trail following the river that runs into the town and out again into the plains. This was a nice walk as it started literally at the beach. Again another nice sunny day and another long walk, although this time it was on the flat. We stopped for some lunch and then again headed back to camp to catch some late afternoon rays.

The beach here is amazing, it goes on for miles.

Sunday, we picked up the trail again and headed in a different direction once we got to the top. It was a bit busier but still very enjoyable. The trail took us to the Light House at the far end of the town. Like all the other walks, this was a circular one so once we got back to the prom, we stopped off for some lunch at a place that had wonderful views. We have to make the most of this as unfortunately bad weather is a coming!

So, Monday was a very blustery day. We did manage to get out in the afternoon for a stroll along the prom, but it was quite bitter that wind. Tuesday was just a total washout. It just rained all day. It's a shame as there are a number of museums here, one of which, about the civil war, we would rather have liked to visit whilst it was raining, but unfortunately it was closed. It would have been quite interesting.

Today, Wednesday, our last day here, we decided to do the same walk that we did on Sunday. It's amazing considering the amount of rain we had yesterday, the trail was completely dry. Anyhow, the day started off a bit cloudy, but as the day went on, it got warmer and sunnier. We stopped off at a beach bar for some lunch to finish our day off. Again, beautiful views looking out over the beach and across the sea. After lunch, we picked up the prom and headed back to camp. A very enjoyable stay here. Somewhere we will, I'm sure come to again at some point in time.
