Torrox
On our way down, around Alicante a grey haze began to form. The further south we went, the worse it got. However, once we arrived in Torrox, it didn't seem too bad and looked like it was clearing up. Oh how wrong we were. When we woke in the morning, it was like a permanent sunset in the sky, with red rusty coloured dust everywhere. It was thick and you could feel it in the air and feel it in your lungs. We had arranged to meet up with Brian and Jane. It was so good to see them again after 2 years. The weather was looking particularly dodgy so we went to a market to begin with and then to a shopping centre. By this time the rain had come. It was quite torrential. However, we had a bite to eat and then went back to their's for a while just chatting and catching up. The rain eventually stopped but still the red dust was in the air. No sooner had you cleaned a surface than it was covered again. By lunchtime on Wednesday, it stopped raining and we were able to clear up the mess caused by the rain and dust. Thankfully the rain over night cleared the air. Late in the afternoon we strolled down to the Costa just to get some fresh air and stretch our legs.
Thursday we met up with Brian and Jane again, down on the Costa. We took a stroll along the promenade, stopping for lunch along the way. It turned out to be a glorious sunny day in the end.
Friday we pottered around in the morning and then later in the day we went back down to the Costa to grab something to eat but unfortunately got caught in a shower on the way back 😟.
Saturday we met up with Jon & Debs, Steve & Lesley up in Torrox old town. It's a birthday weekend celebration for Steve (not my Steve) and we had agreed to meet out here quite some time ago in the wine bar one Thursday evening. Again the weather had decided to behave itself and the sun shone for us. We stopped in the old town for lunch. Jon had already booked a table and arrange for paella, which was fabulous. We then headed off to Jon's house, where we were all staying for the weekend. We all settled in and then did a walk around the mountain, feeding the donkeys. We then meet Jose, one of the locals along the way who insisted that we taste his locally made wine. He was quite a character, although we didn't quite understand him, we got the gist of what he was articulating 😃. Jon cooked dinner that night and we stayed in and continued to celebrate Steve's birthday.
