Winchester ~ 21st - 28th September 2023

Image
We just managed to get settled in at Winchester before the rain started. After our bright and sunny start in Fairlight Woods, which seems such a long time ago, the weather has started to be a bit unpredictable. Nevermind, we are in Winchester and hope to have a good look around and do some good walking here. Friday we walked down into Winchester, which is some 3 miles away. We took the scenic route which brought us out at the outskirts of Winchester. A lovely Cathedral city, with castle and beautiful old quirky streets and shops. We picked up a path along the side of the river, opposite the old watermill and headed out of Winchester along the old railway line and to the outskirts and up to St. Catherines Hill, which we followed the circular walk around and then descended back down onto the trail and returned back to town. The Cathedral and surrounding area is beautiful. We stopped a couple of times for refreshment and then headed home. Saturday we walked down to the local village of Ea...

Bognor Regis, West Sussex ~ 13th - 20th September

Image
The weather is still warm and sunny, so we've stayed on the coast and just moved a little further along. Never been to Bognor Regis, so this is a new area for us to explore.    Thursday we headed down to the sea front and walked along the pier, a rather short pier, but all the same a pier. We then headed along the prom heading towards the villages just beyond Bognor Regis. We stopped at a very nice beach bar/restaurant and had some lunch looking out over the sea. We then just strolled back taking in our surroundings. Friday we took the bus to Chichester. This is a lovely place with  Cathedral, quaint shops, bars and  restaurants. My Uncle sang in The Cathedral Choir, so it is a special place to visit. After wandering around, we stopped for a bite to eat and then continued with our mooch around until we finally caught the bus back to camp. Saturday we caught the bus in the other direction to LIttlehampton. Here, we had a stroll along the  seafront, stopped for a...

Fairlight Woods, Pett, East Sussex ~ 6th September 2023

Image
A week in a lovely site in a small village called Pett, between Rye and Hastings. As a young child, I had a weeks family holiday in Fairlight, so was interested to it, not that I remembered much about it, if truth be known. It is still pretty rural here and the site we are at is very nice and very quiet. The only noise we get are the owls at night or the squirrels searching for acorns, which there are plenty of. Never seen so many oak trees. A lovely location, with a short walk through the woods to the pub which serves great food too and a local butches in the village, selling great food for us to BBQ when the mood takes us. As you know the weather has been exceptionally hot, although it has been a few degrees cooler here and with all the shade on site, we've managed to remain quite cool, which is a good thing. Thursday, we headed off to Hastings on the bus for a look around, a stroll along the seafront, a look at the old town and also the net huts and the maritime museum. We sto...
