Haro, La Rioja Region; 11th ~ 17th April

Image
Tuesday, we arrived at Haro, our last stop before getting the ferry from Bilbao to Portsmouth. Hopefully we will be able to arrange a tour of the Muga winery, which we were not able to do last year. As tomorrow is going to be a wet day, all day, hopefully we can arrange this then. Thursday, hurrah, we managed to get on the English tour, which unfortunately starts at 10am. Thankfully they left the wine tasting till the end so it wasn't too early in the day 😄. It was a good tour and very interesting, as they make all their own vats and barrells. This is a family run business and it is now the third generation running it. The tour consisted of two American woman and a couple from Israel. We had a good chat with them all after the tour whilst sampling the wines. After this, Steve and I went into the town to get some tapas. Sadly our favourite place, Bar Beethoven was closed for the day so we settled on somewhere else, followed by a coffee at the piano bar looking out over the square. ...

Albarracin 3rd - 10th April

Monday we arrived at Albarracin. We've been here before in 2016 with John and Pat who came for a couple of days too whilst we were here. It is a beautiful small medieval town up at 1000m+ with the ruins of a Moorish castle on the cliff top. Needless to say being up high, it's going to be sooo cold at night 🥶. In the sub zeros. A bit of a shock after Javea. Tuesday, we decided to head into town and familiarise ourselves again. We started off doing the river walk, that follows the town half way round. Once we'd passed the old millhouse, we gradually headed up into the town. It's not changed much at all. Still very beautiful with little narrow cobbled old streets and timber frames buildings. After lunch, we headed up to the castle ruins. On our previous visit, we walked along the top of the ruins, not allowed to do that now, very dangerous really, but hey that was then, this is now😁. We also found a couple of walking routes that we wanted to do that we remembered from l...

Javea ~ 28th March - 2nd April

Our last week in Javea.     Monday we headed off to walk Cap Prim. It was a nice day, although the sea was quite rough with surf rolling in on the beach.  Tuesday we did a bike ride to Granadella. We enjoy this pretty cove very much.  Wednesday. BBQ day 😊 with Lesley and Rob. We started off with a game of boules, BBQ'd and then rounded the day off with cards. Thursday, we decided to do the lighthouse walk again, only we changed the route slightly. Once at the pennisula, we followed a track that took us along the edge, keeping the town and sea in view, instead of going into the middle and following the path through the new growth of the, soon to be woods. The new route kept us in the shade for quite a while until we met up with the original track and continued along to the lighthouse and down into the port area. We stopped off for drinks at the corner bar before returning back to camp. As always a nice, long walk but slightly different on thi...
