 Just for you Catrina

El Berro, Sierra Espuña

We left Torrox in glorious sunshine knowing that we were heading into possibly a week of rain, but to be honest, everywhere was due to get this weather, whilst back home you were basking in the sun. Anyhow we decided to come back to El Berro as we love it here and we just thought we would grab the chance to get out and walk when we could. However, we didn't quite expect the deluge of rain when we got here  it was torrential. So we decided to hire a bungalow. Such a wise move. We've had days of non stop rain. But we have managed to get out and have now had a couple of days with no rain.  Our first walk was on Thursday when we actually did a quick walk in the morning. It was pretty grim, as you can see. However, we did in the afternoon manage to get out again as it had brightened up quite a bit. We did the barranco walk via the sanitarium.  It was still quite misty, we had very low cloud for some of the walk, although not as bad as this morning and it did brighten up as the...

Torrox

Image
On our way down, around Alicante a grey haze began to form. The further south we went, the worse it got. However, once we arrived in Torrox, it didn't seem too bad and looked like it was clearing up. Oh how wrong we were. When we woke in the morning, it was like a permanent sunset in the sky, with red rusty coloured dust everywhere. It was thick and you could feel it in the air and feel it in your lungs. We had arranged to meet up with Brian and Jane. It was so good to see them again after 2 years. The weather was looking particularly dodgy so we went to a market to begin with and then to a shopping centre. By this time the rain had come. It was quite torrential. However, we had a bite to eat and then went back to their's for a while just chatting and catching up. The rain eventually stopped but still the red dust was in the air. No sooner had you cleaned a surface than it was covered again. By lunchtime on Wednesday, it stopped raining and we were able to clear up the mess cau...

Last week in Jávea

So Monday 7th March and we were in for a day of rain. We did manage during a slight lull to pop over to John & Pat's for a cuppa and a chat. Tuesday turned out to be quite a sunny day, so we met up with Rob and Lesley and headed off to the bar in the market for some lunch. We had also arranged to meet up with some of the crowd from the ICA. Both Steve's were cajoled into trying sea urchins, which are served up raw, with a dash of lemon. Actually they didn't taste as dreadful as you thought they would. So nothing really to write home about. After lunch we headed back to Rob and Lesley's for a quick game of cards, hurrah, I actually won at Dirty Liz. We quickly headed back home and then met up again with Rob & Lesley, John & Pat, Vicki & Steve and Jean & Pete at the Wok buffet for dinner. A very enjoyable day.     Wednesday 9th March Steve and I cycled to Granadella. This is a great cycle ride in that it's up hill all the way until to drop down int...

Still in Jávea

So Monday 28th Feb we decided to do a bike ride to the various view points here. So we started off with my favourite, Cap Negre. It's not to far to cycle and the views are pretty spectacular. We then continued on to Ambolo via Cap de la Nau and Les Pesqueres. Ambolo is Steve's favourite. Here we had some lunch whilst just soaking up the views and the warm weather.   Tuesday 1st March we played boules in the afternoon. This was great fun as yet again we had a Ladies league. We did manage 2 games this time. We tend not to be so competitive as the guys and naturally take our time 😀. In the evening we went to John and Pats for dinner. It was lovely to sit around at theirs, chatting and eating delicious food and generally having a good time. Wednesday 2nd March we went to meet up with Lesley and Rob. Wednesday's when we were locked down in Torrox was BBQ day. So after a couple of games of boules, which Steve and I lost (they have nice new shiny boules), we had a BBQ followed by...

Another week in Jávea

So Monday was a nice day and we decided to walk to Cap Prim. I'd like to say it's one of our favourite walks, but to be honest, we enjoy them all. Upon returning to site, we met up with Tony, Rita and Zac for drinks and nibbles, all very pleasant. Tuesday we headed off with Tony, Rita and Zac and did the Cala Blanca walk, which takes you down to a small cove with little white cottages on the beach, we're guessing that at some point they used to be fishermans cottages. However, the beach was really quite busy, which was a bit of a shock for us as normally, there are not many people around. However, it's half term, so the place in general is more crowded. We then headed off to Cap Prim with Tony and then caught up with Rita and Zac and headed back to camp. Wednesday was a nice relaxing day and we spent it with Tony and Rita, who yet again, provided us with a lovely curry. A most enjoyable day, just chilling, eating and drinking with friends. What more could you want. Thur...
