CANADA - Montreal September 2025

Image
We left Nova Scotia on the overnight train. Here we are in our cabin, travelling to Montreal. 24 hours went amazingly quickly, mostly taken up with 3 meals on board and a wine tasting session. We didn't manage to stay up for the trivia quiz, which was probably just as well. Arriving Montreal via train was pretty spectacular, crossing over the St Lawrence and into the heart of the city. Here we said goodbye to Steve and Marina. We had a fabulous adventure with them, but all good things must come to an end. We headed downtown and decided to go on the Montreal Wheel, which gave us fabulous views over the city. The leaves are turning quicker here and there are loads of red leaves everywhere. Autumn in Canada is particularly lovely. After the wheel, we strolled around the city, seeing some of the sites and just enjoying the freedom to walk. In the evening, we headed out for dinner which was particularly nice. Off tomorrow on another train ride to Toronto. "Hills, watch out, here we...

CANADA - Cape Breton, September 2025

Image
We arrived on Cape Breton and followed the scenic route up the island following inland lakes until we arrived at our first night stop. This is the view. A fabulous restaurant that specialised in Lobster. Great if you are a fish eater, but sadly, not so great for Marina, who isn't a fish fan. We somehow managed to spend a good 3 hours there, so wasn't that bad. In the morning, we headed off on the Cabot trail. A scenic route that hugs the coast. Once we arrived at the National Highlands Park, Steve, Marina and I followed a trail around a lake. It was 5 miles or so. It was good to get out and stretch our legs. We had to be alert though as this is Black Bear, Moose and Coyote country. No sightings on this walk. We got up early the next morning to see if we could get onto the Sky Trail,  a beautiful walk heading out to the coast. Sadly, it was not to be. We spent so much time, stopping at scenic spots, that it was closed when we arrived. Still, we felt that after all we had seen...

CANADA - Prince Edward Island, September 2025

Image
Our first night on Prince Edward Island, having arrived at the Island via the Confederation Bridge which is an amazing 8 miles. It was quite something. We are in Summeside and we are right on the beach. Very peaceful and quiet here. The island is like stepping back in time. Very quiet, hardly any traffic and the people just so friendly. We travelled quickly to our next location for the night. Moth Lane Brewery. A micro brewery, the proprieter being a real character. We tried a few of his home brews  and then just chilled for the rest of the day. Another glorious day and another sea location. We then in the evening went and had some dinner at the brewery. For a little place in the middle of nowhere, it was busy constantly throughout the day and evening. Friday, we travelled on down the coast to our last nights stay on the island. Red Point. We stopped off enroute at the most easternly point and a light house. We went up the light house and got some beautiul views of the surrounding...

CANADA, Nova Scotia ~ September 2025

Image
Tuesday, we flew into Halifax, Nova Scotia for the start of our 4 week trip to Canada. Meeting up with our friends Steve and Marina at the airport, we headed to our hotel, where after freshening up, we headed down to the waterfront for a stroll along the broadwalk. It was a lovely evening and we couldn't quite believe how quiet the place was. We chose a lovely location on the seafront, sitting outside with a fire dead centre of our table, with a sea view and had a bite to eat. Fish is the real deal here.  Wednesday, after a leisurely breakfast, we headed down to the waterfront, where we picked up the 'Hopper' tour. Basically, this is a bus tour of the city, but on an amphibious craft. So we toured the city of Halifax taking in the sites and then, splashed into the sea for a tour of the sites on the waterfront. Being sat at the front, we got drenched when we launced into the sea, much to the amusement of the other people. After this, we stopped for some refreshments, before ...
