Devizes - The Kennet and Avon Canal ~ July 2022

Image
So here we are at Devizes in Wiltshire, we are based on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Ironically, we cycled the canal with Vicki and David a long time ago. We arrived here Monday and then on Tuesday, we set off along the canal walking towards the series of lochs that make this canal famous, 16 lochs on this stretch, not to mention the numerous lochs to get here. It was a nice day and a lovely stroll. At the top of the lochs there is a cafe, where we stopped for a light lunch. We then continued on to the village of Devizes where we took a stroll and then returned back to camp. A nice start to our stay here. Wednesday, we took a stroll in the other direction. Again another nice day for a stroll. The river was busy today, with a number of barges chugging up and down, still having to go through a couple of lochs and narrow bridges. We ended up at The Barge pub, where we stopped for lunch. A lovely pub looking out over the canal, it was great watching all the activity on the water. After...

Slapton Sands ~ June/July 2022

Image
So Thursday 30th June, we moved on from Hanley Swan to Slapton Sands in Devon. The reason for this visit is to meet up with Vicki, a friend from our diving days, who now lives in France but is here working at Slapton Sands for the summer. We are also meeting up with David, another diving buddy but who Steve also worked with in the past. Slapton Sands is a lovely location, the site being within 5 minutes of the beach and giving beautiful views of the beach and out to sea. Late afternoon, David, Steve and I took a stroll down to the nature reserve looking out over the sea. It was a very pleasant walk and great to get out and stretch those legs after the journey here.  As soon as Vicki finished work, we strolled up to the village of Slapton and had dinner in the pub there. It was great catching up with both Vicki and David. David we've not seen for a good 10 years plus, whereas Vicki we perhaps saw as recently as 4 years ago maybe. Friday, Steve, David and I did a circular walk, stopp...

The Malverns ~ June 2022

So here we are in Hanley on Swan, just outside of Malvern, with the Malvern hills looking down on us. What a beautiful location. Hanley Swan itself, is a lovely quaint village, with pub and local shop and within easy walking distance of the campsite. This is new territory for us and the reason why we've come here, well two fold, to explore this area and also to catch up with Valerie, whom we met 8 years ago in Spain. So we arrived and arranged to meet up with Valerie in the local pub here. It was so good to see her, we spent a good couple of hours just catching up and made arrangements to meet up the next day. Friday, Valerie picked us up and we headed off to Malvern. A lovely town with the most beautiful buildings, very quaint and full of fresh water springs. Everywhere you looked in this town, was a glorious view, with either the hills as a backdrop, or down over the countryside. We stopped for coffee and cake and continued with our catch up. Valerie left us and we continued to e...
