Morvich ~ The Scottish Highlands: 17th - 24th May 2022

Image
Tuesday 17th May So here we are in Morvich, the final leg of The ICA Scottish Odyssey, for us anyway, the others are off after here to Skye. A lovely location, at the head of the Loch Duich and the start of Gleann Lichd. We arrived to a lovely dry, sunny day. And after getting set up, we all met for our usual 'happy hour' and a quick briefing on the local area and things to do. It's quite noisy here with birds. There seems to be a constant chatter from all different types of birds. The cuckoo being very vocal. Wednesday we joined Bob and Tina and did the Gleann walk, which followed the River Croe. This was a lovely walk, meandering through the glen full of sheep and their lambs. There were a number of waterfalls and little streams running into the river, which at times was very fast flowing over rapids. We followed the trail to the end, although it did continue over the river and then up into the mountains, but this distance was sufficient for us today. Just over 8 miles ...

Killin, The Trossachs ~ 10th - 17th May 2022

So we moved on from Melrose up to Killin, in The Trossachs National Park. Unfortunately the weather isn't looking too good for the week, and even as we arrived, it just started to rain. However, that didn't stop us meeting up for a happy hour and also to celebrate Val's birthday. Wednesday morning we all went for a walk through the town and out along the old railway line and then along the loch, following this through to the woods and then back round in a loop to the campsite. By this time it was raining quite a bit. So we gathered together in the afternoon and played Mexican Trains. We had three tables consisting of 3 teams per table. Steve and I won on our table.  Thursday morning was a bit wet, so we decided to pop into town for lunch and then head off to walk up Creag Bhuidhe.  Of course, no sooner had we got to the woods after a very steep walk up, it started raining again. However, we continued with this walk. The climb after the woods, was still rather steep and bogg...

Melrose, Scottish Borders ~ May 2022

Image
Here in Melrose for 6 nights for the first part of the ICA Scottish Odyssey meet. A beautiful small town in the Scottish Borders region. Flanked by big hills covered in bright yellow gorse and blue bells. It's very, very pretty here.  Thursday, we all went for a lovely walk along the River Tweed to Abbotsford, home of Sir Walter Scott. The walk was very pleasant and the weather was very kind to us too. Arriving at Abbotsford, we stopped for a light lunch and then continued on our circular walk back to Melrose.  This is the beautiful Abbey in Melrose Friday the weather was looking likely to rain for most of the day, so Steve and I  decided to go to Galashiels to see the Great Tapestry of Scotland. This was actually amazing. A totally dedicated building purpose built to hold the great tapestry in. The tapestry is made up of 160 individual tapestries each depicting Scotland's history right up to the current day. It really was very interesting and also amazing the texture and...
